The music of Samuel Barber is surprisingly varied in style, and these piano works are no exception. Perhaps the most avant-garde of these works is the sonata that opens the collection, which demands that you listen to it with great attention.

At the other end of the spectrum you have the "Souvenirs", a suite for ballet which is also available (on a different CD) in orchestral form, which is fluffy and lighthearted.

If you like solo piano music, then this one definitely ought to be in your collection.
