Product Description

CD Description

INXS's first US album--the Sydney-based sextet had previously released two Australian-only albums, INXS and UNDERNEATH THE COLOURS--didn't have quite the commercial success they achieved five years later with KICK, but 1982's SHABOOH SHOOBAH is arguably the group's best and most consistent album. Certainly it leads off with their most ingenious single; "TheOne Thing" melds new wave angularity with good old-fashioned rock and roll swagger in a fashion both intriguingly new and comfortingly familiar. The closing "Don't Change" is nearly its equal, an anthemic rocker as memorable as anything by, say, Foreigner, only way cooler. Between them, the group explores slightly more mysterious and artsy climes, with the shuffling "Spy of Love" and the clattering "Black and White"particular highlights. INXS were never exactly hipsters--long before anyone knew who he was, Michael Hutchence was plainly an old-fashioned Jagger-style rock star--but SHABOOH SHOOBAH is their hippest album.

3.0 out of 5 stars Back Catalogue Gem, 27 Feb 2000

If you're a fan of later INXS stuff then this album from 1983 is well worth a look. It is pretty mellow for INXS but contains gems like 'Soul Mistake' and 'To Look At You'.

4.0 out of 5 stars The sound of a young band with so much to offer!, 7 Jul 2009
This might lack the slick production of their later albums, but fresh, melodic and evocative of their Australian homeland - this remains an exciting listen.

The best was yet to come with their first US hit 'Listen Like Thieves', the world dominating 'Kick' and their intrigingly experimental 'Welcome to Wherever You Are' - but this is worth owing.

If you like this, try 'The Swing'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Maybe Their Best, 1 Jun 2009

(REAL NAME)
For me there isn't a poor song on this album you can stick it on let it play and without ever needing the skip button.
INXS were at their peak for me between 1983-1990 and by the end of that period they were deservedly world superstars.
This album is right at the start of that era and its an amazing album.
"The One Thing" is an outstanding opening track with a great chord progression and amazing guitar sound.
Its hard not to think of the glorious warm countryside of Australia when listening to INXS during this period
Stand Out tracks "The One Thing" "To Look At You" "Jan's Song" and the superb closer "Dont Change"

This is the point where INXS began a shift away fom the Ska tinted sounded of the first two albums and as a result, the sound is darker. Read more
