I purchased this recording little over 2months ago and can honestly say Perahia brings such artistry and taste to his performances that I felt a connection with these sonatas and Mozart, that wasn't compromised by over elaborate dynamics and tempi, but still full of character and depth. Altough Perahia has not recorded the entire cycle of sonatas, as Barenboim has done, I would urge anyone desiring to hear Mozart played in a realistic but still magically musical way to buy this album. Perahia once again proves his understated virtuosity in his ever expanding repetoire.

The tragic K.310 written whilst Mozart was in Paris, is played with stunning dexterity and absolute control of dynamic, the K.533/494 is played just as brilliantly but the real highlight is Perahia's performance of the famous K.331. Although played by almost every pianist imaginable, Perahia brings freshness and light to this sonata, employing understated virtuosity in the "Alla Turca" whilst displaying such a depth of feeling in his soft playing in the Theme and variations of the first movement, leaving the listener looking fruitlessly for any room for improvement.
Perahia truly qualifies his status as the "Poet of the Piano" in all these Mozart sonatas. Sony provide wonderful sound quality once more, but the disc leaves me wondering when Perahia will expand his catalogue of Mozart sonatas!! All the same this disc is a great start.
