Only Yazoo is really a record-company executives compilation of Yazoo's 1982-1983 work as opposed to a decent retrospective covering the best of their two album's worth of recordings. This comes through when you see the number of needless remixes and filler-fodder onboard.

It really is a crime against music that whoever compiled this collection did not include their single finest moment, the incredible 'Don't You Bring Your Love Down', one of the great 'lost singles' of the 1980s. However, with great singles such as Situation (a decent enough 1990 mix), Only You (a Depeche Mode reject song), Don't Go and Nobody's Diary all present and correct, it's still nevertheless worth a gander.

Vince Clarke would go onto greater things, forming Erasure with Andy Bell in 1985 (OK, maybe they've had their day now !) while classy singer Alison Moyet produced a fine selection of albums and singles throughout the rest of the 1980s. All in all, not bad, but their best song just is'nt there ! (digitally remastered re-issues of their two albums would have been a better idea!)

The songs are half written by Vince Clark, half by Alison Moyet; does this explain the summary? Well no, about half of Clark's songs are brilliant and half average and the same applies to Moyet's. Although the number of average songs on the album (and I include the singles amongst these)precludes 5 stars for the album, the brilliant songs nevertheless make it a 'must-have'. It's nearly 20 years old now so get it before it's discontinued and you'll hear a few stunning tracks.

This album has some 80's classics from the group who have so much history between them. Unfortunatley, this album has nver been given the chance to flourish to a possible new younger audience.
