isan are two chaps separated by a long stretch of road but connected by a heap (heaps?) of old synthesisers and beatboxes. Their noise is bleeps, squeaks and drones arranged in ways that please the non-dancing ear and evoke nothing less than Radiophonic Workshop soundtracks for nature films that were never made. On this, their first full LP, 'paintchart' and 'skeek' are particularily worthy of your attention.

I was lent this CD a couple of weeks ago by a friend of mine who had heard them on the radio and had impulse bought the album. And it paid off. This album is as cool and chilled as it is legally possible to be. With vague similarities to Air and some wonderful patches that are so unbelievably cheesy that you can't help but adore them, this album has only exited my CD player to be played on somebody elses (except for a brief period of Pavement, but who could blame me for that?). The main tracks are interspersed with imaginatively titled "tints" which out of context aren't much to listen to, but when placed in the midst of the others provide a wonderfully smooth-flowing album. As remarked, I didn't drink anything but I'm sure that I'm drunk. All down to the album (and none of the hangover). Especially track 15, whose main synth sound makes you doubt the seriousness of everything. Ever. It's just so childish and cheesy that it's fantastic.

Marvellous.
