Product Description
Description
Max Brennan is the bass-wielding wonder of the Isle of Wight, the fretless dervish whose funked-up moves spin you dizzyand satisfy your deepest cravings for sweet, uncut electronic groovadelica. As the cornerstone of Fretless AZM and Universal Being, Brennan concentrates cosmic energies into dancefloor dynamite, letting loose in an explosion of beats and bass. ALIEN TO WHOM? packs Brennan's most sublime groove-ology yet, covering every conceivable shade of his extraterrestrial techno-laced fusion-funk.
"Venusian Shuffle" and thetitle track take to orbit with billows of anti-gravity synth and mood-setting samples. But when Brennan bangs the bass,he lays down the funk like nobody's business. His lines snake through "Blue Book" like umbilical cords that feed off some galactic mothership. Between windmill breaks and sneaky fretless runs, the breathless "1300 Milliseconds Of Brass" delivers on its promise--in tremendous, galvanising gusts. Thehuge, tripped-up beats of "Mind The Gap" are space-dusted with irradiated synth squiggles, while "We Have Been Tweeked", co-written with AZM cohort Paul Butler, is slathered in squeals of wah-wah guitar. Brennan may not be alien, but he isa missing link--between the otherworldly melodic majesty ofspace-bound psychedelia and the earthly delights of a lewd groove.

5.0 out of 5 stars Devasting sci-fi funk., 25 April 2001
By A Customer
Max Brennan's debut release for Sublime is a truly breathtaking mix of dance/funk/hip-hop/jazz that defies accurate description. This recording proves what a truly remarkable and versatile musician and composer he is. Each listening reveals greater depths and subtleties, and whilst not danceable in the true sense, the themes are haunting and tuneful. Try the title track, Fusion Spot, and We Have Been Tweaked. You will be hooked.....
