This album is still as fresh with promise as it was when I first heard it way back when. The sounds are all very 'un-produced', raw-edged and each one gets right to the point.
The best tracks for me are the old Spencer Davis number: 'For Your Love', with its straightforward chord structure, lyrics which complement the then emerging and uncluttered urban style and heh! what a guitarist, cutting back on any pretension to slickness, free as in Free and exceedingly expressive. The title track 'Cry Tough' expresses street life of the times, excitement, love and stress and yet can easily apply to 2004's experience of urban hassle.
Go back, young bloods and listen to this album, you won't be disappointed!
