4.0 out of 5 stars Perky, punky and full of hooks, 23 Jan 2004
A lovely little indie album with thrashy fuzzed guitars, yelping vocals and some cracking tunes. At the time, it was a wonderfully refreshing change from the stale Dadrock end of Britpop that was starting to dominate. It just sounds glad to be alive and young and in (or out) of love, with enough hook laden twisted songs to keep anyone happy. Bits of it sound all over the place, and singer Dan has vocals that are equally eratic, but this just adds to the charm.

Fantastic single "Race", "On The Rose" and strangely poignant album closer "Keep In Touch" are the highlights, and the rest of the songs still sound great. It's fair to say that the tunes aren't exactly hugely varied in style, but the sheer enthusiasm in the delivery makes up for that. They sounded totally out of place and out of fashion at the time, but whereas most of the other music from their peers has dated awfully, this still sounds fresh.

4.0 out of 5 stars sadly underrated, 26 Jan 2006
These guys were really good. It seems like the music press got behind them for about 2 weeks in 1996, in between Oasis singles probably, then soon pretended they never heard of them. There were a few b-sides from this album that should have replaced album tracks in my view (Where's the Love, Time Tunnel Cellar, Honey Friends, and their best song On Spanish Farmland outclass a few of the tracks included here), but overall this is English eccentric indie/art rock at its most ramshackle.

It's the kind of album you could imagine the biggest band in the world in ten years time claiming as a major influence, even though no one actually bought it.
