5.0 out of 5 stars The best of Max Brennan's Fretless AZM releases, 10 Jan 2001
Max Brennan's particular brand of fusion/dance/funk/jazz is beautifully showcased on this the best (in my view) of his releases under the Fretless AZM guise. The music blends 70's retro styles with electric pianos and synths but in a completely updated format that reveals more subtleties with each listening. "Bass lines and boxes" and the single release "Gambit (yes please)" are the stand out tracks, particularly the latter where Brennan employs a repetitive but haunting bass line and rhythm guitar over which he solos with some synth work which would have Keith Emerson rushing to dust down his moog ! Check out Brennan's work in the bands Maxwell House and Universal Being with fellow Isle Of Wight resident and drummer Rupert Brown.
