5.0 out of 5 stars An inspiring and exciting album, 28 Feb 2000
By A Customer
For me, this is the band's best album yet. A rich variety of song styles, 'Secret People' keeps you interested even after many listens. It all flows so beautifully, there are no tracks that you will need to skip over. Particularly strong are 'Grace and Pride' and 'Four Stone Walls', both passionate songs with strong tunes and lyrics. If you've got taste in Celtic music, you'll love this !

5.0 out of 5 stars Heather of a different colour, 27 Oct 1999

This is a "surprise albums". One that , at first, has one or two good tracks. Then, suddenly , you realize that you are playing the album over and over again. It grows on you. I respect that Capercaillie has moved away from the traditional tendency of Scottish Folk music to moan about the sea and has made a conscience effort to be assessable to today's audience. There are a couple of tracks that have social connotations. However, the brilliant melodies makes you quickly oversee this.

3.0 out of 5 stars Karen Matheson has a very fine voice, but....., 24 Sep 2008

...that is not enough.

This album is a mixture of traditional numbers and their own material. For me, the traditional material works very well - in particular Bonaparte, Tobermory and Hi Rim Bo. Their own work, I find less satisfying - pleasant enough to be sure, but I don't go for 'pleasant' music.

Newcomers to Capercaillie might be beter advised to start with 'An Introduction to' - which has 7 of the 14 tracks.
