Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Brazillification 2 is the second instalment in Fila Brazillia's remix series. The duo--Man and Steve Cobby--have a knack for coming up with delightful, hybridised tunes that balance a killer club ethos with a distinctive musicality. Already eight albums deep in terms of their own artistic accomplishments, they have also turned in a vast amount of remixes for other people over the years.

Hence the Brazillifiation series, which collects their best--or, at least, favourite--reworkings under one roof. Comprised of two discs, Brazilification 2 contains a dazzlingly broad range of sounds and styles that sashay exotically across the speakers, creating an evocative soundscape built from the duo's reworkings of Fluke's "Tosh", Cal Tjader's "Soul Sauce", Hoodrum's "How Jazz It?", United Future Organisation's "Cosmic Gypsy", Mellow's "Mellow", Jaffa's "Elevator" and King Louis' "Paraplegic Soul", among many others. With the uptempo numbers on the first CD and the more supine grooves on the second, this is as good a collection of Fila's enigmatic magic as any. --Paul Sullivan

5.0 out of 5 stars Brazil. Via Hull..., 6 Oct 2003

The second installment in the Fila remix best of saga is upon us and has the tough task of following up the sheer quality of the first in the series. Again a two disc series, disc 1 handles the uptempo world of the Fila remix, disc 2 the more downtempo noodlings with both discs mixed together in an end to end fashion by Fila themselves.

Highlights of Disc 1 is the wicked dark atmospherics of Jose Padilla - Who Do You Love Now? which flows into the almost Morodor-esque disco bass of Elevated. You get quite alot of dub/drum & bass efforts to spice the compilation up in the form of The Truth - Truth Theme and the Blood And Fire Megamix as the CD journeys from the jazz breaks of Sven Vath to firin' funk of Razor. Even though the focus is on the uptempo, you never lose the wonderful sense of Fila chill ... definately something you can whack on in the summer to soothe tired souls.

Disc 2 gets a bit of a minus point for including Mellow - Mellow, which was on the LAST compilation, NAUGHTY. But a very minus ... minus. Highlights for me are the deeply housing grooves of Radio Zumbido, soulful electric funk of Ben Christophers and the latin washes of Soulstice. A prime exercise in chilling.

Overall, it doesn't quite have the killer tracks of Brazilification 1, which you would expect since that got first picks at the cream of the Fila crop, but its still a fooking wicked compilation and is worthy of praise in its own right. Where B1 was very melancholic in mood, B2 shines with its uptempo and upbeat melodies, plus the uptempo/downtempo theme of the compilation works very well. Again, like B1, if you're looking to be introduced to the world of Fila, this is a wonderful place to start. So many tracks so many sounds. Quality.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the original Brazilification, 28 Jan 2004

As the title states this is not as good as the original collection entitled Brazilification. As with the groups own output they have tended to slide more recently - Jump Leads being a fine example. This CD is too upbeat for my liking and anyone prefering the downbeat side of Fila Brazillia should buy the first instalment.
