Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

There was a time when Aerosmith was a great rock band. Then, just a few years before vocalist Steven Tyler's daughter, Liv Tyler, grew up and became a movie star, they transformed into one of the premier purveyors of power ballads--songs, in essence, that are as vapid as the big summer blow-'em-up movies, like, oh, say, Armageddon. In which Liv Tyler stars. Convenient, no? The soundtrack, which includes four and a half Aerosmith tracks ("Animal Crackers" features only Tyler), also has contributions from ZZ Top ("La Grange"), Bob Seger ("Roll Me Away"), and Our Lady Peace ("Starseed"), all of which fans of the respective bands will own on previously released albums. There is Shawn Colvin's fine--if ultimately unnecessary--cover of World Party's "When the Rainbow Comes", new tracks from Jon Bon Jovi and Patty Smyth, and even a dusting off of Aerosmith's take on "Come Together". Judge for yourself: is that really the song you want to hear just before an asteroid finishes off the Earth? --Randy Silver

5.0 out of 5 stars If you liked the movie, you must own this soundtrack!, 15 Nov 2003

Armageddon: the album is one of the best soundtracks ever to be published for a movie. It contains the hit "I don't want to miss a thing" by Aerosmith, as well as the following songs: Journey - "Remember me", Aerosmith - "What kind of love are you on", ZZ Top - "La grance", Bob Seger & The silver bullet band - "Roll me away", Shawn Colvin - "When the rainbow comes", Aerosmith - "Sweet emotion", Jon bon Jovi - "Mister big time", Aerosmith - "Come together", Patty Smith - Wish I were you", Our lady peace - "Starseed", Chantal Kraviazuk - "Leaving on a jet plane", (the famous) "Theme from Armageddon", and "Animal Crackers". Apart from that, the booklet inside the cd, contains the lyrics of the songs as well as a number of pictures from the movie! All in all, this a cd that you will love to hear again and again, and it will bring you memories from the amazing movie!

3.0 out of 5 stars Armageddon outta here...after the first few tracks, 18 Nov 2003
By S. Wright (Sheffield, England.) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
I do tend to believe that film soundtracks can only be loved on two terms; either you really do love the film and the music reminds you of your favourite cinematic moments...or you love all the songs that are on there, but in that case, you might already own them. And for a good soundtrack, you can love one or two tracks, and you can like a few of the others. For me, Armageddon comes into the latter category.

Despite Aerosmith's previous brilliance years before, the classic ballad, 'I Don't Want To Miss A Thing', is of course, included on here, featuring a stunning orchestral introduction, and that opening piano line. As much as a massive hit it was, there's still a fair share of songs on here to try to steal the limelight. The surgining pop-rock, of Journey's, 'Remember Me', and the sheer raunch of Aerosmith's stripper-scene, 'What Kind Of Love Are You On', reminding you of earlier days of their own brand of sheer sexiness, and raunchiness. There's the truly rocking, 'Starseed' by the lesser known of all the bands, Our Lady Peace, with the best true rock song on the entire album.

Unfortunatly, this is not a consistent representation. Well it is, but...it isn't. The songs from the film are featured here, it's just now you hear them on record, they don't fit well together at all. The songs are too differing, especially when they're right next to each other (like, let's say, 'Starseed' and the poor slowness of 'Leaving On A Jet Plane').

It also suffers from poorer moments. Aerosmith's own version of The Beatles 'Come Together' leaves on hell of a lot to be desired, and doesn't excite like the original, nor Michael Jackson's version. Steven Tyler's own main solo part with piano on 'Animal Crackers' is pretty good, but then unfortunately we have to hear the voice of possibly the world's worst actor, Ben Affleck, in the background, spoiling the soundtrack, just as his performance let the film itself down, and the 'Theme From Armageddon' itself, never was that impressive and still isn't.

Still it's probably worth it just for that one classic moment right at the beginning. They might not want to miss a thing, but there is a lot to be missed from Armaggedon's hot and cold soundtrack.

3 Stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you enjoyed the film, you will enjoy the Soundtrack., 30 May 2001
By A Customer
The Armaggedon soundtrack is packed to the brim with some awe-inspiring tracks, sung and composed by some very talented artists. If you have seen this action packed film, every time you listen to the Soundtrack,in your mind, you will be able to relate the songs to some of the classic moments in the film. With a very varied selection of songs, ranging from the hardcore rock of Aerosmith, to the musical masterpiece of the Armaggedon Theme by Trevor Rabin, the soundtrack provides superb listening material. The Armaggedon theme tune is very moving, and everytime you see a shuttle launch on the television, the addictive Armaggedon theme tune will ring in your ears. The Soundtrack contains 14 tracks, 2 of which are classical (Theme from Armaggedon and Animal Crackers), and 12 that are carefully selected from the movie. Although it is a superb and emotional soundtrack, some songs are not recognised to be used in the film, but this only counts for about three songs. I would definately recommend this Soundtrack to any fan of the Film. Buy it, it is excellent.
