5.0 out of 5 stars Different men in the same position..., 26 Jun 2003
An absolute treasure trove of little black gems from one of the most original, creative and interesting creatures to emerge from the USAs 'No Wave' scene in late 1970s. This double set fleshes out what was first documented in the seminal 'Hysterie 1976-86' and contains some of the best work Lydia has put out in the last 20 years. This really is the best place to start if you are new to Lunch's musical outings or are simply after a sample of her work. Highlights include the ear-piercing 'Death Valley '69' with Sonic Youth, 'Lady Scarface' from the brilliant Queen Of Siam album, Teenage Jesus And The Jerks' 'Orphans', 'Some Velvet Morning' with a Bad Seed and the sublime 'Suicide Ocean'. The booklet is equally sumptuious and features a selection of beautiful era-spanning photos and a nice essay from The Wire magazine. A must for fans, essential as an introduction and a good choice for curious surfers... Fans of darker new wave/indie/grunge will find something to wallow in and goth ladies will find an icon in Ms Lunch. Check out her site for news and biog - lydialunch.org. Enjoy!
