4.0 out of 5 stars A surprising find - well worth a listen, 13 Jun 2002
Isla St Clair is best known to those of us long enough in the tooth to remember her in 'The Generation Game' as co-host.
For most of my friends, that experience is usually enough to generate derisory comments when I get out the CD to play as we sit and chat. It does not take long for them to discard the preconceptions and enjoy the music for what it is.
Isla has a wonderful voice, which in my opinion is much improved from those early days (when I recall hearing her sing a carol on TV), but of her post-1995 recordings, this album in particular showcases her talent best.
Part of the credit must also be laid at the feet of the musicians, who together with Isla have adapted traditional Scottish songs, and given them a more contemporary feel.
The songs move from the plaintive and emotional through to the powerful and evocative, whilst the sleeve notes provide a wealth of interesting and informative background information about the songs and the times from which they originated.

I heard Isla being interviewed on the radio about the album, and on hearing some of the clips, bought the CD.
It is now one of my favourites.
