Product Description

CD Description

Along with Black Flag, the Circle Jerks and others, Descendents were founding fathers of California punk, popularising a brand of hardcore that was singularly West Coast--streamlined, with equal amounts of aggression and tuneful popcraft. This was the scene that would cough up chart toppers like Green Day and Rancid 15 years later. From their recording debut in 1979 till their breakup in 1987 and mutation into the equally fierce All, Descendents shot out album after album oftight, concise punk. After a nine-year layoff, the bespectacled Milo and crew have returned with an album as raucous and engrossing as any of their previous outings.
Unlike many of the bands who followed in their footsteps, Descendents add a welcome touch of sardonic humor to their existential rancor, making you laugh along with the bleak narrative of the title tune, even as you empathise with the poor sap whose life is in shreds. Only a mind as deliciously twisted as Milo's could come up with as bizarre a tale as "Eunuch Boy" andmanage to cram the entire lyric into 30 furious seconds. Ultimately it's Descendents' gift for melodic songwriting thatmakes them continually engaging. EVERYTHING SUCKS does everything but live up to its title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Descendents squeeze hard at the base, 5 Jun 2001

This review is from: Everything Sucks [VINYL] (Vinyl)
I'm not going to get caught up in all the politics of what's punk and what's not, and whether or not NOFX are 'selling out' etc, because at the end of the day, it bores the life out of me. This is a fantastic album, with a little bit for every punk fan. What you have here is 31 minutes of punk genius. Short-sharp blasts of a musical state nearing the 'hardcore' moments of some Zeke songs, separated by 8 of the finest melodic punk tunes that will ever be written. It has everything you would expect from a decent punk record, but what matters is the songs, which are second to none. If you're into their old stuff, it's a bit of a polish up from 'Milo Goes to College', but loses nothing as far as speed, agression etc are concerned. It just makes for a better record. If you want image, buy what the NME tells you to, but then again if you've looked this album up, you're half way to musical enlightenment already.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb., 4 Oct 2000

This album is amazing. Fans of punk & harcore, pop and rock will love this.

Tracks like I'm the One just blow you away first time and don't lose anything with repeated listenings.

This band is too often forgotten or passed over by some modern punk fans, here's their/your chance to redeem 'em by buying it.

An absolute gem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well Worth the Wait, 19 Jul 2004
This album is a great return to form from hardcore/punk legends the Descendents.
Containing some of their strongest material ever (title track, I'm the One, This Place, I Won't Let Me), this short and sweet album trades in length for OTT fast and furiousness.
If you like proper fast punk, you can't go wrong with buying this album.
If you're new to the Descendents, I suggest you get 'Milo Goes to College' first. It was their debut and is even better than this!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just buy it, dammit.
'Everything Sux' is worth the entire back catalogue of Blink-182, Good Charlotte and a hundred other B-league pop-punk acts combined, basically. Read more
