5.0 out of 5 stars Mature chillout for an eclectic audience, 11 Oct 2001
By jimtuhey@hotmail.com (Southampton, UK) - See all my reviews
Nu Cool 2 builds on the success of the ground breaking nu cool, with some blissful moments of civility and style in today's formulaic one-hit one-weekend wonders. There is no better way to kick off an album than with a track that features Jocelyn Brown, the godmother of modern disco souldful dance tracks. The album then works into some wonderful styles such as Expansions with the voice of Roy Ayers and The Black Science Orchestra's Philadelphia.
The second disc is quite a contrast and is more suited, as the sleeve notes say, to the terrace at club 'nu cool'. The combination of shimmering vocals and blissful beats from D-influence and Ultra Naté open the second CD. It moves through modern gringo hip - hop (Fun Lovin' Criminals) to Loungecore (E-Z rollers), via some interesting distractions in the shape of Zhane's 'Request Line
' and Juanita Daley's 'Love Hurts'. Take Nu Cool 2 as it comes and keep and open mind, and I'm sure it will find an appropriate niche in your collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars The definition of cool........, 12 Nov 2005
By Scubaboy "sydwal" (Swansea, UK) - See all my reviews

Love this album - I remember the Roof Bar at Camel in Sharm El Sheikh playing this on warm summer evenings - simply blissful. The consistency isn't quite up to the standard of the other volumes in the series (partic Vol 4) but this is good stuff nonetheless.

Check out the fabulous "Garden of Earthly Delights" by D'Note - an 8 minute piece of musical magic. Best of all must surely be "Expansions" featuring the brilliant Roy Ayers - 9 minutes of pure grooviness.

As I've pointed out in some other reviews this isn't going to around for much longer so get ot while you can.
