The now defunct 'Third Eye Foundation''s first album sounds first and foremost like the soundtrack to a very bad dream. Matt Elliot, the sole member of the 'Eye (as no one ever called them) weaves harrowing soundscapes and synthy sweeps with sparse but lovely instrumentation and the occasional batch of D n' B breaks. If this sounds like a hodge-podge mix that you've heard before you haven't. Elliot manages to create a distinctive and unique style with what look on paper like rather generically 'trendy' elements. Moans and whispers creep up from the edges of the music, but although self-consciously and sometimes affectedly creepy and paranoid, the effect is never ruined by being overdone. Best enjoyed at night overlooking a badly lit inner-city street.
