Amazon.co.uk Review
When Sting embarked on his solo career, he didn't throw his tenure with the Police out the window; on this live double album from his Dream of the Blue Turtles tour, he reworks some odd selections from his old band's catalogue in the expansive, jazz-inflected style of his new crew (which included saxophonist Branford Marsalis). The performances on Bring on the Night emphasise showmanship (solos, backup singers, and all) and they've got lots of crowd-pleasing moments, like the overwhelming swell of "I Burn for You" and a Caribbean clap-along on a medley of "One World" and "Love Is the Seventh Wave". But Sting's raw-steak voice has been affected by his band, too, and his phrasing on the quieter torch songs draws cleverly on jazz traditions. --Douglas Wolk

Description
Viewers understandably traumatised by the birth scene in "Bring On The Night", director Michael Apted's documentary on Sting's first post-Police band, were doubtless relieved to learn that the album of the same name was not the movie soundtrack. Instead, it is an extremely well done concert set taken from Sting's 1985 European tour. The band, featuring Branford Marsalis on sax, moves through a nice selection of Police tunes and songs from Sting's solo debut DREAM OF THE BLUETURTLES. Though nothing here eclipses the studio versions, it's all eminently listenable and is distinguished by outstanding musicianship throughout.
