Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

When Sting embarked on his solo career, he didn't throw his tenure with the Police out the window; on this live double album from his Dream of the Blue Turtles tour, he reworks some odd selections from his old band's catalogue in the expansive, jazz-inflected style of his new crew (which included saxophonist Branford Marsalis). The performances on Bring on the Night emphasise showmanship (solos, backup singers, and all) and they've got lots of crowd-pleasing moments, like the overwhelming swell of "I Burn for You" and a Caribbean clap-along on a medley of "One World" and "Love Is the Seventh Wave". But Sting's raw-steak voice has been affected by his band, too, and his phrasing on the quieter torch songs draws cleverly on jazz traditions. --Douglas Wolk

CD Description

Viewers understandably traumatised by the birth scene in "Bring On The Night", director Michael Apted's documentary on Sting's first post-Police band, were doubtless relieved to learn that the album of the same name was not the movie soundtrack. Instead, it is an extremely well done concert set taken from Sting's 1985 European tour. The band, featuring Branford Marsalis on sax, moves through a nice selection of Police tunes and songs from Sting's solo debut DREAM OF THE BLUETURTLES. Though nothing here eclipses the studio versions, it's all eminently listenable and is distinguished by outstanding musicianship throughout.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing compares to Sting, 18 Feb 2001
By rooduijn@bart.nl (Rotterdam,The Netherlands) - See all my reviews
I always liked the Police - this is true. But then there is Sting. He plays, he sings, he writes and I must admit his mellow jazz songs often leave me weak. If you can, get the video too for the full effect. But either way, "Bring on the Night" moves you through soulful renditions and ranges of emotion from love and joy to pain and sorrow. If you don't feel your muscles ache after "We Work The Black Seam", turn it up and play it again!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning, 1 Feb 2003

(REAL NAME)
Jazz inspired live recordings of songs mainly from Stings first solo album „The Dream Of The Blue Turtles". The musicians are in best form and very playful. Most of all I like the medleys, especially „One World (Not Three)/Love Is The Seventh Wave". The songs are not only coupled to each other, but woven in each other. Stunning! There is also a video of the same title worth seeing, about how this concert tour was made to happen.

5.0 out of 5 stars best album by far, 28 Oct 2003
By A Customer
This album and the tour is by far the best work that sting has ever done, which is emphasized by the unbelievable drumming of omar hakim, some sweet bass from darryl jones, lightening fingers of the late kenny kirkland and the superb as ever branford marsalis the only let down on this album is the omission of the drum solo at the end of burn for you which is best illustrated on the video of the same name but thats me being picky...iwould highly recommend this album to anyone who wants to see a diffrent side to sting,a not as slick side.
