Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

A second album some three years after a movie's release has to say something about its unique appeal. The simple fact is that, while rooted in a mid-nineties timeframe, Swingers is a film that won't "age". An important part of that is because of the carefully chosen soundtrack, chockfull of songs that are already ageless classics. You'll have to excuse the modern industry vernacular which allows a subtitle of "music from and inspired by": clearly the likes of Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, and Mel Torme were in no way "inspired" by the picture. Turn the phrase around however, and the equation makes much more sense. The songs from these three ("Ain't That A Kick In The Head", "She's A Woman (W-O-M-A-N)", and "Down For Double" respectively) are all key to the broad thematics of the story. A running gambling motif of "doubling down" in Blackjack makes Torme's tune especially poignant for the sweet romance eventually found between Jon Favreau and Heather Graham. Even ignoring the charitable donation of revenues going toward the Arthur L. Liman fund, this album is an essential choice--if only to experience L.A. one-offs Marty & Elayne crooning "Staying Alive". --Paul Tonks
