My first review for this album seems to have gone missing, so here goes again. Thought this album deserved a better rating as its one of my favourites from this excellent band of the 70's. The follow up to the brilliant Dream Kid (excellent review already on Amazon) the album still didnt include You Got Me Anyway or Rock and Roll Show which missed the 32nd of July 1973 deadline on their previous set. Beat Of The Street was released in the autumn of 1974 following their USA tour which had drained their annual budget and as a result Island records didnt promote this album as much as it warranted. It proved to be their last outing for the label before they changed their manager to Nick Blackburn who very quickly got them a CBS contract. New producers then assigned for their highly successful Reach For The Sky album which got released in November 1975 and yielded their 1976 single Arms Of Mary and at last a deserved headline tour of the UK.
Getting back to this album, it features one of Iain's best ever songs in Saviour In The Rain (not on their best of 2002 set) and other personal favourites here are Annie, Devil Are You Satified, Laid Back In Anger and the London market themed title track.
Iain and Gavin born in Aberdeenshire and raised in Stoke-On Trent, as usual wrote and provide vocals on all the songs with fab guitarist Tim Renwick credited also here with Gavin for Hi Life Music. Highlight also here though, is the contribution on keyboards/synths from the late great Peter Wood who also worked with Al Stewart on his Year Of The Cat album. Definitely worth checking out if you get the chance to purchase this album until such times as we get a Best Of The Sutherland Brothers Volume Two which might also include the missing Down To Earth CD album and several tracks on USA released albums but not on UK releases.

The first collaboration with Quiver, this album is much flawed but has an outstanding track in 'Saviour in the Rain'. Also highly recommended are 'Living in Love' and 'Annie'. Later commercial success with 'Arms of Mary' (Reach for the Sky) only hastened the groups lack of appeal. Also listen to Lifeboat and The Sutherland Bros Band, especially for 'Real Love', 'Ireland' and 'The Pie'. Later albums too commercial.
