5.0 out of 5 stars Go Mahonie!, 29 Nov 2000
This band are totally funkt out. "Watching people speaking when you can't hear what they're saying" has to have one of THE best guitar riffs that you can really dig into. I have followed this band from their first gig in the King's Head, Crouch End to seeing their record in the shops. Fantastic. Even John Peel was impressed.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the best albums around not trying to say anything., 16 Jul 2000
By A Customer
The Big Dig is one of those rare albums which, instead of trying to be anything in particular, lies back and goes wherever. The sound is obviously going to be compared to mogwai and such like due to the way it's just a few blokes with guitars playing memorable tunes with no words. The differance being Billy Mahonie are a band with no lyrics because they don't want to force there opinions on people. They have no opinions. They have nothing to do except make music with no agenda, which is why this is a record which can be put on at any time of day and in any frame of mind. You can cook to Bily Mahonie just as easily as you can surf the net in a really bad mood to Billy Mahonie. They don't care. There just there to keep you company while you drive to the supermarket or read an amusing poem. It doesn't matter, and more people should embrace the nonchalance of it all.
