Product Description
Amazon.co.uk Review
James Newton Howard was no stranger to psychological horror prior to this project. But The Sixth Sense has a little more bite to its creepiness than previous assignments such as The Devil's Advocate, inspiring a touch more atonality from the composer. The tension of the film is enhanced by moments of aural surprise, such as the discomforting cue "Suicide Ghost" in which string instruments are struck by their bows leading into voiceless choir, but more so by the sustained notes that feel as if they'll never end. Sadly, there's no melodic "hook" to help the music become immediately familiar, but it's a noteworthy atmospheric score, nevertheless, as it drips icicles of terror down the necks of viewers. But away from the screen, this album can't have the same effect. --Paul Tonks

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty atmospheric stuff.., 17 Jul 2004
This review is from: The Sixth Sense (Audio CD)
This isn't too bad as a movie soundtrack.A few of the tracks do have atmosphere and capture the mood of the film very well.
It isn't a classic but it is worth listening to,even if it aslo a bit on the short side in length.

5.0 out of 5 stars A score of immensely emotional proportion., 18 Jan 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Sixth Sense (Audio CD)
I once read that half the emotion of a film scene is generated by it's music... and I think this score really proves it!!!!! I find it to be especially evident in the tracks 'Malcolm's Story/Cole's Secret' and 'Malcolm is Dead'. The rest of the score is equally pleasing, with pleasantly unexpected 'bursts' of tension which fit the film perfectly.

James Newton Howard has really gone to town on this one and it would be nothing less than he deserves, for me to say that this is some of his vintage best!

May he create many more with such class, as they are a joy to listen to!
