4.0 out of 5 stars Great work from the Welsh Wizard, 6 Mar 2003
By Mr J G Lawrence (Kings Lynn, Norfolk United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
In the early days of his career, Martyn Joseph was heavily criticised for his sentimentality (one review claimed that he was "too much of a softy"). I have often wondered why sentiment should be shunned by the critics. Surely if there is a place where sentiment, love, memories etc can exist it is in music. Agreed, sometimes many lyrics go over the top and become false. However, Martyn's lyrics, which are indeed at times sentimental, are nevertheless honest and come from the heart, and so strike a chord. In truth this album is probably his least sentimental but in many ways is his best. His first two albums, while full of good tunes and lyrics, suffered from a over-productionitis. Full Colour is a lot more simple in it's tone. The arrangements are sparce and provide room for Jospeph's lyrics and emotional voice to soar. There are some beautiful songs here, not least on "The Ballad of Dic Penderyn" where Joseph shows a good understanding of his native Welsh history. "Treasure the Questions" tries to assure the listener that there is nothing wrong with not understanding everything about life. The acoustic songs stand out for me but there are very few weak moments on this album. This singer-songwriter is well worth investigating annd this album is agood place to start.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent record from an underated artist, 15 Dec 1999
By D. A. Rees (Christchurch, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Martyn Joseph deserves some success, he consistently produces quality music with thoughtful lyrics. This record is no exception. Martyn is not afraid to sing about faith and commitment but somehow manages to do it without offending or pressurising people who do not share his faith. 'He never said' is an excellent example of this, describing all the things Jesus never said and ending with a verse concentrating on what he did say - love one another - simple but how many people actually do it? The highlight of the record is the truly magnificent 'Have an angel walk with her' - a track that you have to stop whatever you are doing and listen to. Check out Martyn's material; he deserves that at least, even if mainstream commercial success does not favour his style of honest well crafted songs.Martyn if you read this, keep writing quality 'from the heart' material

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful depth and soul to the music and lyrics - superb!, 17 Nov 1999
By A Customer
Martyn Joseph as a songwriter finds such depth and understanding. The lyrics challenge and enrich and the music is sheer heaven. He has a way to make you sit up and listen.

Get your 10p's ready for "going home", be shocked at the directness of "everything's news" and realise what truths it tells of today's media. Mellow out to "have an angel walk with her" one of the most moving songs I have ever heard. This is a song that everyone who listens to it cannot agree on what it is saying as it is very personal. Think of the way we have become self-deceiving with "he never said" - helping us look to what really matters (really excellent song).

Buy the album, learn the songs and see this man n concert.

Well worth the money - he has blown so many artist off stage when he has been playing support - buy the CD and see why!
