Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
Ask anyone who grew up in the 1970s and they'll tell you: hard rock ain't what it used to be. Need proof? Compare the real thing and their '90s counterparts on this soundtrack from a movie about four kids trying to sneak into a sold-out Kiss concert. Kiss contributes the title track and "Shout It Out Loud", two prime blasts of 1976 hard rock. The Donnas can only copy the painted ones' "Strutter"; Everclear cruises by the numbers through Thin Lizzy's "The Boys Are Back in Town", while Pantera traces Ted Nugent's "Cat Scratch Fever". When Marilyn Manson attempts to put its own stamp on AC/DC's "Highway to Hell", the results are pretentious and boring, lacking all the kinetic excitement of the original. If the truth be told, nearly all the highlights are the original songs: Van Halen's goofy yet dexterous "Runnin' with the Devil", Black Sabbath's rumbling "Iron Man", Cheap Trick's masterfully silly call to arms "Surrender", and Thin Lizzy's deadly and virile "Jailbreak". No matter what technological advances you make, you can't beat a genre in its prime. --Rob O'Connor

2.0 out of 5 stars Overkill....copied soundtracks!, 31 May 2001
Well, as an older rocker (37) from California, loved the movie, but....what happened to this CD? Ted Nugent, now ehre in sight, except for the redo of his Cat Scratch fever by Pantera! Come on only Ted can do his song! Marilyn Manson doing ACDC's Highway to Hell, another repo disaster! Anyway, they should have kept to the original masters of their own music, the rest is fine BECAUSE it is original songs WITH original bands! UHHHHH! Totally bypass....

5.0 out of 5 stars Perhaps The Best Soundtrack Album Of All-Time, 18 Oct 2000
By A Customer
The review by Amazon defies reason. Overflowing with life, this album brings all the bombast and force of rock 'n' roll to the surface. Despite the fact that it is based on a 'KISS Movie', Kiss contributes a mere three of the fifteen tracks. Many old rock classics such as Black Sabbath's menacing Iron Man make it to the record. Nearly every song on the album smokes. Everclear's take on The Boys Are Back In Town is a nice party number to kicks things in action to prepare the listener for KISS as they 'bring the house down' with the adrenaline-charged Shout It Out Loud before Van Halen sets Hell on fire with Runnin' With The Devil. Pantera growl and snarl their way through an electrifying Cat Scratch Fever, with all the teeth and bite of Ted Nugent's original. Black Sabbath pounds through Iron Man before Marilyn Manson brings on sonic innovation and a fresh breath of life to light up 'Highway To Hell' in a version that far out-strips it's original. Drain play a scintillating Twentieth Century Boy to give way to the super-charged crunch of Detroit Rock City. Thin Lizzy are up next, breaking down the house with Jailbreak before the listener gives in to Cheap Trick's Surrender- one of history's greatest cruise songs. David Bowe lets the pace down a little with Rebel Rebel, and the Donnas fail to touch the heels of the original Strutter, but both still kick ass. The Runaways heat things up again with School Days before Sweet brings on the wonderful and jingley Willy to prepare the listener for the rather sour last track. While Shout It Loud and Detroit Rock City proved some of the best of this great album, this last track is enough to keep any listener at bay. It was intended to be the same kind of hit as Aerosmith's I Don't Want To Miss A Thing (also written by Diane Warren). But KISS could only do love songs when they meant something- and this is simply a faceless track to sell some singles. Why couldn't KISS have put Love Gun on the end of the album instead. Nothing Can Keep Me From You is a letdown, but the rest of the album is so hot that all is forgiven. This one rocks.

5.0 out of 5 stars wow., 28 Jan 2001
i just have to say that i am a fan of old music, and they should have put blitzkreig bob on the soundtrack, but other than that, WOWOWOWOWOW, i mean not just saying this, i LOVED THE MOVIE! LOOOOOVVVVEEDDD, but being the fan of old rock and punk music i am, i have to say, the music just MADE the movie whole. What a great selection. and they also should have put fox on the run, i mean this whole thing when Lex is running away, thye missed all that good music!
