In 1914, Ottorino Respighi produced this hour-long "Sinfonia Drammatica", so it predates his well-known "Roman Trilogy" by a few years. It sounds to me the Respighi had spent quite some time studying Mahler and, to a lesser extent, Richard Strauss. If you like them, you owe it to yourself to try this CD, especially at Naxos price.

The 18-minute finale does sprawl and drag a bit, but the Andante (which sounds strangely Lebenese to me, not that I have heard much Lebanese music!) is played very well by Nazareth and his band.

Lush late-romanticism in full colour; give it a go.
