5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Album from an Underated Composer!, 8 Jul 2009
By D. BROWN (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This album contains both Takashi's Saxaphone Concerto played by virtuoso Sugawa Nobuya and his 3rd Sympthony conducted by Fujioka who conducts most of Takashi's work.

The symphony itself has a very similar feel to that of the first movement in symphony no.2, the eastern 'dirge' but gradually finds a sound of its own that leads up to the spectacular finale, which pays homage to the last movement in his "Sky Colour Tensor".

The symphony is enjoyable but what really shines here is the saxaphone concerto. From start to finish this is truly a modern classical/jazz masterpiece and the variety of sound and textures Takashi can create is astounding. I would definately recommend this album on the strength of the concerto alone to any classical or jazz enthuthiast!

I would also recommend all Takashi's other works, his "Fuzzy Bird Sonata" in particular if you enjoy this, which can be found on Rob Buckland's "Towards the Light".
