Product Description

CD Description

For Bowie fanatics and archivists, I DIG EVERYTHING provides a revealing glimpse into this stylistic chameleon's beginnings. This collection brings together the first three singles Bowie recorded for the Pye label in 1966 before recording his first album on Decca the following year. The package is impressive; a handsome booklet full of info and pictures, and each single housed in a separate picture sleeve. The songsthemselves are a million miles from both Bowie's first hit,the spacy 1969 folk-rocker "Space Oddity" and those from his self-titled Donovan-meets-Anthony Newley debut album. The six tunes contained here are a mixture of American R&B-influenced mod soul and swinging-London pop. Motown-like beats abound in arrangements that suggest the Young Rascals' alternate life in the UK.

All six tracks on this appear on 'Early On (1964-1966)' which is also stocked by amazon.co.uk. 'Early On 1964-1966' has a *slight* advantage by also including 11 other tracks along with these 6.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Dig Everything...about this collection, 10 May 2001
By A Customer
I'm not sure what others may have expected from this collection, but to this Bowie fan these CDs represent an opportunity to purchase the songs in their original form.

The tracks are 2 minute mod-style songs not dissimilar from other 60s singles, which do not exactly hint at what was to follow, but are certainly as listenable the output from other bands of that era (The Who and The Faces spring to mind).

Any Bowie completist would be a fool not to buy this set.

1.0 out of 5 stars Things can only get better!, 1 Feb 2001
By A Customer
Having previously bought over 20 of his other albums, I purchased this one to join my series. To be honest, it's a big disappointment. With only 6 tracks, I expected them to last at least 4 mins long (like stationtostation). Thirteen minutes after pressing play, it ended. Average length of song 2mins. If you want an album with his early work on, then buy Bowie-1964 to 1966. It's a good job that this material did not make him succesful, or we might not have got the David Bowie who quite frankly has recorded better songs than the Beatles.
