Firstly let me say that it's not often that Rephlex releases something i don't care for, but this is one of those occasions. The boy clearly does have talent and the beat structures are certainly innovative. But for me music has to validate itself by being able to elicit some emotion or feeling. All it managed to elicit in me was the feeling that i'd wasted 15 quid. The only reason i'm posting this at all is that i felt the previous contribution might prove misleading. There's a whole load of really great stuff on Rephlex, but i just don't think this cuts the mustard. (If your want to get a better idea, check out their excellent "Braindance" compilation.)

Imagine the Aphex Twin's album "Richard D.James" mixed with some more crunchy distorted beats and plenty more wistful, ephemereal melodies, and that's this. Check out the funk soul crummer - Bogdan -'s voice all over the record.

Beautiful, deranged and satisfying.

The thrill of first listening to this album reminded me of catching chimp malaria. A condition that makes you fall asleep at the drop of a hat, and make aimless monkey noises. "Maths Beats" has got all this and more. A treat for all die hard rephlex completist. To be able to quantize chimp noises and make them sound like nothing on earth has got to be a very special gift. A gift to humanity. These "dope" cuts mark Raczynski out as the Dr Doolittle of D and B. You will be alarmed, surprised and have a nagging sense of the familiar, albeit with chimp noises
