Product Description

CD Description

Skunk Anansie has tended to visit Heaven and Hell in alternate breaths. Though POST ORGASMIC CHILL is less extreme, thesongs still plummet from the highest, hardest of metal rages into the most blissful and plaintive of whispers. What sets this album apart from the previous two is the subtle use of electronica, unusual percussion, and even snippets of jungle-perhaps a belated response to Skunk Anansie's sampling bythe Prodigy.
The first track "Charlie Big Potato" is typical. After a brief drum-and-bass intro, Skunk Anansie launches into a thumping guitar motif and incredible vocals that leap from a hushed murmur into passionate screams of anguish. The repetitive, churning guitar themes latch onto the brain while, in contrast, the very American string arrangements add extra emotive power. Skin's incredible voice is celebrated for articulating black-feminist rage, but it is just as wonderful on the ballads. These were actually the band's moresuccessful singles. CHILL includes "You'll Follow Me Down","Lately", and "Secretly", which exhibits a terrifically impassioned, empowering response to infidelity and a lovely, uncharacteristic haze of guitars in the central section.

5.0 out of 5 stars Going out with a Bang, 21 Aug 2001
By gordo@filthyhabit.co.uk (Ealing, London, England) - See all my reviews
Skunk Anansie's final album is simply stunning, with great atmosphere. Skin's voice adds a touch that is not replicated by any other band or album, and she can portray great emotion (particularly anger) in a song. I had previously heard Stoosh and wasn't that keen, but I then saw Mark Richardson (the drummer) playing this live at a drumming festival and thought it was incredible, so I had another go at Stoosh. It now occupies a permanent spot in my CD player.

Great effort seems to have been put into POC to make sure that every track is exciting and involving, and the whole band seem to really get into making the music. They also get the listeners involved in... er... listening to the music - the sound just makes you want to strum along with Ace, scream with Skin, and as Skunk go out with a bang, you'll be banging on some imaginary drums with them. Great stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully powerful., 26 Jan 2000
By A Customer
I didn't think this album was as good as Stoosh when I first got it, but after listening to it a few times, the riffs and melodies became infectious. I bought it after hearing charlie big potato and secretly, both of which I instantly liked, and the other tracks don't disappoint either. Skunk Anansie's music is strange in the way it seems to be both mellow and heavy simultaneously, it sounds good whichever mood you are in. Skin's powerful voice creates their distinctive sound and lifts every track above that of other groups, and helps prevents the album from losing it's way. The group wrote many songs in creating this album and only selected the very best. This definately shows in the music with many interesting parts to each track and some having full orchestral scores. The dynamics are far more varied than in the music of most other groups, which can get stuck at a monotonous volume - but not on this album. There is a superb blend of tracks here with highlights including 'You'll follow me down' 'Cheap Honesty' and 'Secretly'. it also contains many other features when put into a PC or Mac including the wonderful video to 'Charlie Big Potato'. If you liked Stoosh you will probably like this. The chart success they've had does not reflect the quality of this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tracy's Flawless., 6 Nov 2004
By Steven Burns (Middlesbrough, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I'm not much of a rock music fan, but Post Orgasmic Chill is just amazing. There are two clear sounds on this record. Songs such as "On My Hotel TV" and "And This Is Nothing That I Thought I Had" show the harder side of Skunk Anansie's music, whereas "Secretely" and "Tracy's Flaw" show the more relaxed side of them.

There are instantly likeable songs on this album, such as "Lately" and "Secretely" - at first, I skipped a few songs on it, but after listening a few times I could not take this out of my CD player. It's a nice flow of songs; an order which you remember. I'm not too sure about the small instrumentals at the end of some of the songs; you expect a new song to start with them (but I guess this is a trade-mark Skunk Anansie thing)

Skin's voice (the lead singer) is very individual, powerful and completely addictive. It's a perfect compliment to both sides of Skunk Anansie's music.

The lyrics are quite personal, but we can strangely relate to a lot of them. A lot of them are quite cryptic, though (you can find out what they're about on the interactive element of the CD - which is another added bonus)

There's nothing too contemporary about this album, but it's not so avantguard as to be "strange".

I recommend this album to anyone who remotely likes Skunk Anansie, or people who are just looking for something that doesn't sound like every other piece of rock music out there.
