If you've ever seen an African sunset, and gasped at is beauty, then you'll LOVE this music.. Johnny Clegg is the white African of Africa and his music is both loved and respected by a multi-cultural audience. Both powerful, and symbolic, his music will make you cry and laugh...its one CD that has kept me company whilst feeling homesick for my Africa whilst living in London.

Anthology is a sort of 'greatest hits' of Clegg's career- solo and with the Juluka and Savuka groups. Clegg is a fantastic singer and songwriter who all too often seems to go largely unnoticed by the general public, who don't look at the 'world music' section in music shops much. It's a tragedy, because Clegg's music is SO good! Its a mix of serious and funny subject matter tied to socially conscious pop and soul. I know that doesn't sound promising, but believe me, if you give Johnny Clegg a try, you won't be sorry. My personal favourite is his album entitled 'Cruel Crazy Beautiful World'- that's a great one to start with. I have been a fan for ten years, and am glad to see Clegg turn up in unexpected places- like on the soundtrack of 'George of the Jungle', or in Sting's Rainforest Foundation album, 'Carnival!'. But I am sure a great many more people would enjoy his work- if only they knew it existed! Its time record company marketing people and Clegg's agent gave Johnny the promotion his work deserves, after twenty years in the business! A lot of new fans would thank them for it.

Johnny Clegg is one of the most brilliant singer-songwriters of his, or any other, generation. This CD is a fantastic introduction for those who have never heard the guy, because it covers so many yaers of his work. BUY IT, and you won't be disappointed.
