CD Description
Marillion's 1995 effort, AFRAID OF SUNLIGHT, finds the legendary progressive rock band at its most playful and experimental. "Cannibal Surf Babe" throws a splash of Beach Boys splendor onto the usual hard rock, while "Afraid of Sunrise" meanders majestically with a hook straight out of Donovan. Theband explores the topic of death in terms both somber and optimistic, eulogizing a race-car driver on "Out of This World" and Elvis on the whispery "King". Steve Hogarth's dulcet voice remains one of the more remarkable and affecting in the genre as it quavers effortlessly over the symphonic melodies. With its lush production and beaucoup hooks, this may bethe outfit's best post-Fish release.
