Mozart is good for the brain. That's the message of Listen Learn and Grow with Mozart, billed as "music to stimulate and inspire young minds". The two-CD set is split between music for movement, fun and play, and music for contemplation, rest and relaxation, and comprises some of Mozart's best-known pieces.
What better way to put it to the test than trying it out on resident music critics, Sophie (6) and Benedict (3)? Without being told that CD1 was music for movement, Sophie was dancing happily as soon as the disc hit the platter, hardly pausing to deliver her vocal verdict: "It's the sort of music fairies would dance to if they had a party." A big hit there, then. Benedict felt less inclined to dance but a bit of CD2 before bedtime had the eyelids dropping nicely. "It's lovely," was his considered opinion before dropping off.
One point: I would like to have seen some artist details--it's good for children to know that music comes from people. But these CDs look set for repeated playing in our house. --Keith Clarke
