A rare, but fantastic treat!, 3 Oct 2003
It is indeed a rare occurence, to find a song that moves you beyond words. It is far more rare to find a whole album that moves you in such a way. Alannah is the only singer who has had the power to do this. She has such incredible range and sings in a number of different styles; but without doubt, it is on Black Velvet that she really shines through. You can literally feel the emotion in her voice, and it has the power to make you cry, laugh, feel sad, feel fantastic - whatever you want it to make you feel. It is exciting music, at 15 years old, it gives me a taste of real excitement, nothing which the music of pathetic 'pop stars' can arouse. There are so many so-called 'vocalists' nowadays, who are quite obviously struggling just to hit the note, how on earth do they sell any records?! They churn out the same old 'recycled beat', tweak a few notes here and there, put a bimbo behind the microphone, and then go on to announce it as a 'new single'. ?!?! It's stunning that people actually think it is good music! I have only have 'Alannah Myles' and 'The Very Best Of', (although I'm working on my parents about that - Christmas time soon!) but my comments here apply to both! Alannah's music is not just to make money, it is from the heart. It is music that will stay with you forever and is impossible to forget! The album is a once in a lifetime thing. It is a masterpiece that will let you experience a whole range of emotions you barely new existed. I cannot express in words how much this music means, just listen to it, and if you have any taste whatsoever - you'll absolutely love it!
