Product Description

CD Description

If you were to cross an earnest country powerhouse (like Lucinda Williams) and a carefully marketed pop persona (like Tiffany), Andrews is what you might get. This young, Tennessee-based singer's debut combines two contrary elements--gutsytunes solidly entrenched in country verities and the sexy personality that drips from Andrews' pouty, radio-friendly vocals. An inside sleeve that contains more photos of Andrews'cute mug than there are songs on her album casts further suspicion upon the artist's credibility. But a careful listen to HEART-SHAPED WORLD reveals more substance than fluff
Andrews' voice is indeed lovely, textured, stylish, and surprisingly seasoned for an industry newcomer. While she sounds perfectly comfortable on the rockers ("I've Been Waiting ForYou") and on the album's swaying mid-tempo cuts (such as the title track), Andrews really shines on the ballads. Her sultry delivery imbues the romantic narrative of the lovely "The Riverside" with considerable and convincingly aching emotion. Taken together, the songs on this record strike a balance between old-school "classic" country and Top-40 pop appeal that may ensure Andrews popular success and establish her as a country star worth watching.

4.0 out of 5 stars catchy feel-good country pop, 22 Jan 2001
By A Customer
This is a very pleasant listen. Most of the tracks are very catchy, pleasing on the ear. It may not appeal to country traditionalists, but those who enjoy artists such as Mindy McCready, Faith Hill and Sherrie Austin are certain to love it.

(#1 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Jessica first came to the public's attention via the Prince of Egypt (Nashville) soundtrack album, on which she sang I will be there for you. That track is also included here and is one of many magnificent songs. Top of the lot is Unbreakable heart, a truly outstanding ballad.

The riverside, a wonderful ballad about romance in the moonlight, follows the theme of Billie Jo Spears' classic song, Blanket on the ground, although it is a completely different song. Perhaps the writers of The riverside were inspired by the old classic.

James Dean in Tennessee, the opening track, is about a girl in love with a James Dean wannabe. You'd think they could have come up with a more contemporary comparison but perhaps movie stars aren't what they were, or perhaps the legend is just too strong. Still, it's a great song.

There are so many great songs here, too numerous to mention in detail. If you enjoy contemporary country music, give Jessica Andrews a listen. This album and the follow-up, Who I am, are the only two I've heard but both are excellent.
