Product Description

CD Description

Rumoured to be the last album by A Tribe Called Quest, THE LOVE MOMENT brings listeners back to the elements that made the group famous: beats, rhymes, life, and the added elementfor this fifth album, love. Actually, Quest have always shown nothing but love for hip-hop, but as the '90s progressed,a parade of selfish, cocky MCs shifted rap's original focusfrom making people happy to making money. So after a ten-year run, Q-Tip, Phife and Ali Shaheed are closing down shop, but not without leaving us one last gem by which to rememberthem.
THE LOVE MOVEMENT is a much simpler album than what Tribe followers have been brought up on. The Ummah, a production team made up of Tip, Ali and Jay Dee, has brought a slightly newer twist to Tribe's music. Where songs like "FindA Way" and "The Love" are reminiscent of the abstract soundthat the trio best exemplifies, new flavours like "Give Me"and "Steppin' It Up" show their diversity. Still the best at what they do, Tribe Called Quest verify their irreplaceability on THE LOVE MOVEMENT.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Love Movement, 4 Jan 2004
By Oliver Thorp (St. Albans, Herts United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Amazon style rating: 5 Stars
My critical rating: 7/10

This is the fifth and currently final album proper from A Tribe Called Quest before their split into solo adventures. Recently the tragic death of Run DMC DJ, Jam Master Jay, has moved ATCQ to reform and start to record new material for an album that should see the light of day once contract and record company disputes have been resolved with their current lable Jive Records.

This record is again a progression and different from their previous four albums, with the production again (check 'Beats, Rhymes and Life') being handled by The Ummah production crew consisting basically of Ali Shaheed, Q-Tip, Phife and Jay Dee.

Although not as strong as any of their previous work, this album still retains that magical tribe flavour. This time around there are a few weak tracks that don't quite live up to the consistant high standards that have been set on all previous albums. These are 'Da Booty', 'His Name Is Mutty Ranks', 'Give Me' and 'Hot 4 U'. Its not that these tracks are that bad, its just that as a Tribe fan who owns all their albums, these tracks stand out as being slightly weak for Tribe standards.

The rest of the songs are modern Tribe classics and I think have got better with age. There is a real laid back feel to this album, and highlights include a great verse from Redman on 'Steppin' It Up', Mos Def on 'Rock Rock Y'all' and Im a great fan of 'Find A Way', 'Pad & Pen', 'Against The World' and 'The Love'.

To finish off the package nicely there is a bonus disc containing 6 tracks. The highlights here are the Remix of Scenario featuring The Leaders of the New School, Oh My God Remix and One Two Sh*t featuring Busta Rhymes.

To put plain and simple this is not ATCQ's best work, however it is still is a great album and blows many hip hop albums out of the water. My Tribe collection would definately be missing something if I didn't own this, and I think if you're a Tribe fan yours is missing something if you don't own it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Each and Every Style Conquered for their last LP, 19 Mar 2002
You may of heard of TCQ but unless you have listened to this album you have no idea just how good these rapper are. This was their last album before they spilt. Annoyed with sell-out rap artists using the genre to churn out complete rubbish they made sure each track on this album would show them how its done. Guest artists add their personal flavour without being overindulged by TQC (Busta Ryhmes, Mos Def).
The lyrics in 'His name is Mutta Ranks' will help you to understand their aim for this album...
The more time you give the album the greater the pleasure you shall recieve.

If you have only one rap/hip-hop album in your collection make sure its this one. I have total respect for each and everyone of these tracks, can you say that about your favorite hip-hop album? I DONT THINK SO.

This album is definetly worth a purchase, lots of laid back tunes, ideal for those summer afternoons. There's also a bonus CD with wicked remixes of classics such as 'Scenario'
