Steve Albini's production methods give Low a much drier and less echoed sound than their first two albums, 'I Could Live in Hope', and 'Long Division'. This works well, and the arrangements, although still sparse, are both appropriate and adventurous - 'Don't Understand', the most aggressive song on the album, is built around broken tape loops. As usual, Alan and Mimi's vocals are beautiful, their harmonies weaving in and out of one another and sending shivers down the spine. This has to be the most accessible Low album, and would be a perfect first buy.

Wow. I don't know anything about Low, and bought this album completely blind on the strength of a recommendation. Immaculately crafted, breathtakingly beautiful songs, immediately accessible but revealing more with every playing. Not a single weak track here. This is simply the finest album I have bought in many many months, and I'm now off to pick up as much of the back catalogue as I can find.

This is a truly impressive album. Despite it depressive nature, Secret Name contains some of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. This album is a must. 'Two Step' alone is worthy of the price. I only wish I'd heard these guys sooner. Many an evening would have been more enjoyable if I could have populated my stereo with the undeniable brilliance that is 'Low'
