Product Description

From Amazon.com
Forty years after the Clancy Brothers found popularity singing traditional Irish folksongs to an American audience, along comes the Irish Tenors, the trio of John McDermott, Anthony Kearns, and Ronan Tynan. Backed by plenty of coverage of on public television, the three tenors perform a soothing and nostalgic mix of Emerald Isle tunes--from "Danny Boy" to "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling," along with a few surprises. Recorded live at the Royal Dublin Society Main Hall with a light orchestra, the album gives each of the three vocalists his chance in the spotlight. Fans of John McDermott should be sure to seek out the artist's solo discs, which are far more intimate (and musically diverse) fare. --Jason Verlinde

5.0 out of 5 stars Magnificent, 17 Feb 2001
By A Customer
If you like music which stirs the sole and imparts the 'feel good factor' then you will love this CD (and the Video). I can almost guarantee that you will be singing along and planning a trip to Ireland - even before that first sip of Irish Whisky.

5.0 out of 5 stars Carrickfergus makes the hairs stand on end, 26 Jun 2000

I was a little reluctant to buy this cd tenors singing Irsih favourites. But what a cd. The songs are well chosen and the singing well what can one say. To hear old favourites sung in such a way is brilliant. My personl facourite is Carrickfergus and what a perfromance is given here. I can almost see the castle and smell the sea. Well done can't wait for the next one.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Irish Tenor album, worth far more than an Irish Tenner!, 12 Jan 2008
By L. Whelan "Tenor-mad" (Limerick Ireland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This was the first of the Irish Tenor albums recorded 8 or 9 years ago or more at this stage. What an album! Looking at the songlist, one could be forgiven for thinking that this would be yet another poor Irish album which destroys wuch songs as "Danny Boy" and "Only Our Rivers Run Free"... nothing could be further from the truth. From the individual voices and the fabulous orchestra to the emulsion of the three tenors together, this is a pleasure from beginning to end. Hair-raising stuff. Ronan's powerful upper register, Anthony's deeper tones and John's lyrical northern sound blend perfectly. A small criticism though: I often feel that Ronan's upper register can be a little faulty and 'shouty' in places and is in daner of over shadowing the other tenors. Plus John McDermotts's voice, while very beautiful, is unable to reach a true tenor height which draws the question as to whether he is actualy a tenor at all?? His voice is quite meek and never ever reaches that 'tenor factor'. Listen to him and see what you think. In any case, if your looking for a good Irish album that does justice to good Irish songs... this is it!! 4 and a half stars!!
