Having first seen Stuart and co on their inaugural tour at the record shop Missing in Glasgow to promote this album I was absolutely blown away by their genius. It is a wonderful collection of 3 minute works of art encompassing a wide range of styles from the techno-influenced 'Ballad of Ray Suzuki' to the almost lullaby like closing track 'Up a Tree Again'.

Although short at a tad over half an hour, the quality, both musically and lyrically, that the album exudes more than makes up for this and certainly never tires from repeat listening. Indeed, even 18 months later I'm still amused by the whole thought of Columbo parking his car outside my local Burger King ('Columbo's Car'). On the basis of this, and the follow-up ('Geometrid') Stuart David's decision to go solo has released an almighty talent that was otherwise restrained within B & S.

And best of all, having bought a copy on the night I was able to get it autographed - a rare moment considering the well-known reclusiveness of members of Belle & Sebastian.

Quite frankly, I love it. It's the type of music(?) that you have to concentrate on and this means that you get the whole effect of the songs. Here's my advice, light some candles, turn off the lights, lie back and let the stories enchant you. Believe me, you'll never think quite the same again.

Looper are the band of the former Belle and Sebastian bassist and this, their first album, shares their motherband's alternative yet stimulating lyrical tastes. However, rather than the folk-pop breeze of B&S Looper go for a tape-looping rhythm-drenched electronica-with-soul that is every bit as magical as the Belle and Sebs experience. Recommended for fans of Belle and Sebastian or alternative electronic sounds generally.

lovely. lovely. lovely. sad that stuart is leaving B&S but still... from dave the mooman to columbos car... brilliant. but it only runs for about 30 odd minutes... ahh well...

..you'll love this! Impossible things #2 is a fantastic song... the whole talky thing gets a bit much after a while but one the whole its brilliant... i really recommend this
