4.0 out of 5 stars Out of the blue, edge of the seat stuff..., 23 Jun 2001

This review is from: Killers [VHS] [1997] (VHS Tape)
Wow. I'd never heard of this movie in my life until a friend shoved it in my face and said "You have to watch this". It starts out as your regular, 'murderers on the run, family taken hostage' stuff - but the two brothers are great to watch. Their opinions on humanity and modern living are stark, cynical, and totally, humiliatingly true. It almost makes you sympathise with their choice to kill. Dave Larsen is truly menacing, but compared with the sickly-sweet Ryan family, we're rooting for the brothers from the outset. A good thing too, because this family is not what it seems. With gutwrenching speed, the tables are turned, and the hunters become the hunted as this film spirals from a manhunt reminiscent of 'Natural Born Killers' into surreal nightmare, more akin to films such as 'Cube'. Psycho daughters, hidden dungeons, deformed, transvestite family members, poetry quoting and amazing shoot-outs. Now this is the stuff dreams are made of. Don't let the lack of publicity put you off. It just makes it all the more satisfying that YOU found it.

3.0 out of 5 stars I just dont know, 21 Feb 2003

I'm not really sure how to describe this film to be honest. There are some good parts to it, the last 15-20 mins are the most entertaining for sure but the rest of it left me feeling rather confused and slightly annoyed I'd wasted a portion of my life watching it.
My first and biggest problem with the film is the two James brothers. For two grown men who have killed their parents they act like the biggest pair of ponces I've ever seen, mainly due to the way they talk. Maybe in the hands of better actors what they had to say may have appeared more meaningful but they just sounded so stuck up their own backsides and more like a pair of art critics than muderers! I found myself screaming at the tele for them to shut up and kill someone!
The film for me seems to be trying far far too hard to say something on the society we live in (Theres a sceen where the two daughters are discussing who their favourite of the james brothers is, and another where we see that you can buy 'James brothers' toys) but it doesnt really work for me.
However once the James brothers shut and the killing starts we get a much better film. The family aint what they appear to be and things get quite interesting in the end.

Overall it aint a great film, you'll watch it once then probably not bother again.

4.0 out of 5 stars You need to see this film!!!!!!!!!!!, 20 Jan 2002
This review is from: Killers [VHS] [1997] (VHS Tape)
...It is about 2 brothers who have escaped jail and are on the run. The brothers are murderers. They take a familly hostage. A fairly good plot. BUT..................The "horror" is so poorly cut and put together, there is on scene where there are no words there but the woman is clearly moving her lips. Sheer brilliancy! There is also a homosexual zombie called Bob, you cant miss it!
