5.0 out of 5 stars Hugely underrated debut - pure groove rock!, 25 Feb 2001
By A Customer
If you crossed The Doors, Led Zeppelin and The Charlatans, Mainstream would probably be near to the outcome. The debut and only album by this 5-piece, is an eclectic mix of grandiose rock, chilled out blues and groove laden psychedelics. With instruments ranging from flute and fender rhodes to clarinet, and plenty of dark side of the moon-esque diva singing, I will never know why this band never made it. They had tunes, riffs, originality, but this was maybe too much for the superficial public. They moved to Poland and then split. This is a hidden gem, if you like early Verve or the brighter moments of the Roses; Second Coming, definitely worth an impulsive purchase. My personal highlight is Transatlantic, a 9 minute epic, that takes you on a magical journey through he gates of hell into bliss, a live masterpiece. Just buy it, as Im running out of ways to sell it!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great album..., 17 Oct 2003
By A Customer
I'd agree whole-heartedly with everything the other reviewer says. I saw a Mainstream gig in my local Virgin Megastore years ago and they blew me away, I bought the album as soon as it was released and it's still a favourite of mine years later.

I too can't understand why they never made it, this album is a match for anything a lot of better known bands have released and still stands up well today. Buy it.
