(REAL NAME)
if you bought this product, and was expecting the original 1982 version of hip hop be bop dont stop, you will be very disappointed, because it is not on there. There is an awful dance version on this product and a remix of hip hop be bop which is not bad,but i personally prefer the original.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Welcome Release, 21 May 2007
Man Parrish was the creator of the mantra like 'Hip Hop Bee Bop (Don't Stop)', a seminal track which has (quite rightly) come to be regarded as a classic from within the genre of Electro-Funk, a sub-branch of Hip Hop predominant (at least in the United Kingdom) in the early to mid 1980s.

This release is a re-issue of the first Man Parrish album, expanded by the addition of tracks which Parrish recorded after the release of 'Hip Hop Bee Bop', including 'Hey There Home Boys' and the other classic track 'Boogie Down (Bronx)'. This naturally means that the material is subject to the ravages of time, being around twenty-six years old and the tracks might be criticised for their almost childlike simplicity in production terms and apparent lack of concern with wider social issues. But to dismiss this record so easily would be to miss the point - it was produced at a time when the sounds and production methods were still relatively new, and the music was unlike anything else heard before.

Importantly the album lacks the machismo posturing so often seen in Hip Hop, there are no 'bitches' or 'hoes' or guns to be found here. Furthermore, the fact that Man Parrish is gay means that those who seek to place Hip Hop within an exclusively black framework of cultural references are historically incorrect and naive.

In qualitative terms the package offers exceptional value for money, 'Boogie Down (Bronx)' and 'Hey There Home Boys' feature in their original 12" vocal and dub versions, whilst the original extended remix of 'Hip Hop Bee Bop' also features. The inclusion of 'Boogie Down (Bronx)' is very welcome, as despite it's popularity at the time of original release it has not been widely available on cd (in either the vocal or dub form).

Which leads on to the one complaint I have regarding this issue, and that concerns the uncredited change made to 'Hip Hop Bee Bee Bop'. Whilst still the opening track of the album, the version included is from a much later period, and is not the original album mix (as the previous reviewer noted). It can be dated to some time after 1986 as it features a vocal lift from B.V.S.M.P's 'I Need You' - and often features the title 'Acid Remix'. Stylistically it does not accord with the other material on the album - and one can only hope that if the album is reissued again at a later date the original version will be restored and the 'Acid Remix' version will be moved to the end as part of the bonus material. Perhaps the change was made as the Original 12" version of 'Hip Hop Bee Bop' has been featured on a great many compilations - even so it is not usual for the inclusion or change to be made unannounced (even in the liner notes).

But this is the only complaint to be made. The mastering is generally good, and the bonus material is worthwhile (especially if you don't own the original vinyl issues). In conclusion, this is an important part of the Hip Hop musical jigsaw, particularly reflecting the European influence of Kraftwerk and Giorgio Moroder (especially on 'Heatwave').

For fans looking to replace their original vinyl, or for people looking to explore early Hip Hop (in ALL its forms)or early manifestaions of dance culture and electronic music this release is highly recommended.
