Finding a good complete set of Beethoven sonatas is a difficult undertaking. For me the search stopped with this set as I found it to be everything that I desired. The heart of Beethoven meanings and a strong tehnical playing to support the full spiritual range of these sonatas. With Arrau, as always, is not the tehnique, although impecable, that conquers your years, but the complete identification with Beethoven and his message. Profound in every way, meaningfull in every note Arrau brings the passion and the tremendous insights of the master. With every sonata you enter the genuine beethovenian world and take part to creation along with Arrau. If you take into account the very good recorded sound you can be sure that you are in front of the best set of these sonatas recorded in the last century. A must for every Beethoven lover, as you never come closer to Him.

Great recording, amazing playing, but... I wish he had cut his nails before playing! Seriously, and I am not daydreaming since this was confirmed to me in Dubal's "Reflections from the Keyboard" book (described there as "cute"!), you can clearly hear his nails ticking on at least a dozen tracks!

From a personal viewpoint, I found several of his playing a bit "slow", such as Moonlight or even Waldstein.
