Boney M blast off from earth for another super album., 15 Aug 2003
After seeing Liz Mitchell and Boney M perform in Bingley park a while back, my long-standing enthusiasm for Boney M's music was propelled sky-high. A timely re-release of all the original albums on CD is great news.I was slightly wary as I put this album on to play, as all the tracks were unfamiliar, but it only took one audition to reassure me that this was to become a favourite. In a similar vein to the more well-known 'Nightflight to Venus', several tracks are on the theme of taking off from earth, as in 'Future World' where you're encouraged to 'Leave your belongings all behind - everything you need is in your mind.' A couple of beautifully melodious love songs with 'Jimmy', and the heart-rending 'Where Did You Go?' 'Dizzy' turned out to be a cover of the song we all know - can't remember off-hand who did it originally, but I do remember the Vic & Bob version. The Boney M attempt isn't my favourite, I'm afraid! 'Bel Ami' and 'Alibama' add a tropical lilt to the album - light years away from some of the earlier tracks. I have now heard just about all of the album re-releases, and I would say this one has to be my fave!
