With soundtracks on action films getting louder and more densely layered, it's harder for composers to ensure they get heard. Jerry Goldsmith knows there's an orchestral element that peaks above most cacophonous sound mixes though--and that's high brass. Joel McNeely took over some of Goldsmith's scoring duties for Air Force One, and that's just what this sounds like. Lots of tricky percussive tracks tread a marching pace beneath the trilling horn sections. "One Against Many"' opens with a show-off beat before side-swapping brass echoes from your speakers (think Patton--again Goldsmith). The muted horns are a distinctive sound for an action flick, and when coupled with the most repeated action motif (again brass, and a tad Aliens-esque) makes for an exciting listen. It's a more traditional approach than McNeely's impressive score for the ill-fated Avengers movie, but a long way from the early Disney/Lucasfilm fare that threatened to pigeon-hole him. --Paul Tonks
