Product Description
Description
The two-disc set WHAT NOW, WHAT NEXT? collects the cream ofBill Nelson's pop records from the early-'80s, adding a fewunreleased tracks from the same era for good measure. Nelson's musical world is a hermetic one--out of 31 tracks, the only outside musician plays a negligible sax part on only onesong--but these songs are much more musically interesting than much of his later output, and some seem to even recognise the greater musical universe.
The excellent single "Do You Dream in Colour", for example, is herky-jerky synth-bounce that sounds like Soft Cell covering T. Rex. Of the new songs, "First Boy on the Moon" and "Bride of the Atom" do the best job of living up to their inspired titles. This is a handy introduction to Bill Nelson's best work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bill Nelson, the last 20 years, 15 Mar 2001
By A Customer
Remember Be-Bop Deluxe - featuring one of Britain's greatest axe heroes of the 70's Bill Nelson? They released a string of critically acclaimed albums in the UK and went on to tour if not conquer the USA. When the band split Bill carried on recording solo in small studios including his loft. The results are here and what a revelation they are. In these days of manufactured bands producing formulaic music this is pure gold. Bill's music reflects his own life and experiences with an almost painful honesty - and some blinding electric guitar playing! This double CD collection has enough to satisfy you and covers all his styles.
