Those familiar with Almod�var's films will know what a superb taste for music he has. His films are strewn with many of the best songs ever written in Spanish. This wonderful music is used to punctuate structural landmarks in the films, and often to bring an already charged situation to its emotional climax.

This CD brings together most of the songs prior to Live Flesh. (If you liked the songs in Live Flesh you will find them on a more recent CD, together with Alberto Iglesias's original soundtrack). Alongside such Latin American classics as 'Teatro' sung by La Lupe and 'El �ltimo trago' sung by Chavela Vargas, you will find more recent Spanish recordings by Luz and El D�o Din�mico. You will even find Almod�var's own original songs, paradoxically the least interesting in my view.

I have spent many inspiring hours playing this CD over and over again.

This CD is brilliant. It's got two types of song: 2/3 of the album are excellent songs sung by professionals -some of the finest Spanish singers alive, and the best version of 'Ne me quitte pas' (Don't leave me) I've yet heard.

The other third of the songs are silly, rubbish songs that Almodovar and his collaborators have composed and sung themselves, and they're only good for a laugh, if you understand Spanish.

But the proper songs are outstanding, and the CD is well worth it.
