Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
Faithless are actually a band of multiple faiths, both musical and spiritual, including Buddhism, hippy idealism and rave fanaticism. All these elements are sublimated into their dance sound, and after their mid-Nineties million-selling single "Insomnia", they were mistakenly dismissed as disposable Euro-house. The diversity of Sunday, 8pm gives the lie to this notion. It's galvanising dance music for sure, with big, overarching crowd-pleasing synth riffs courtesy of keyboardist Sister Bliss and non-performing Brian Wilson-style programmer Rollo. But then Boy George guests on "Why Go", a big ballad with a simple plea, while "Bring My Family Back" and "Take The Long Way Home" feature quietly intense, first-person raps reminiscent of Massive Attack, whose shadowy, ominous sense of melancholy is in evidence throughout the album. So when "God Is A DJ" breaks through the clouds and fills the dancefloor, it's more than just easy triumphalist hedonism; it is a blessed relief, a pleasure earned. --David Stubbs

5.0 out of 5 stars "It's in minor keys, solutions and remedies...", 2 Oct 2006
This review is from: Sunday 8pm (Audio CD)
Who says that electronic music cannot have soul. Full to the brim of soaring anthems and soulful reflections, `Sunday 8pm' is a genuine step forward for Faithless from their debut `Reverence'. The song writing has unquestionably moved to a more coherent and mature standard which can only be a good thing. This Album has atmosphere and depth, and reflects a feeling of observation of new experiences plus reflection upon familiar yet distant situations. The only track that for me does not fit in is `hour of need' which has a lazy drum machine dominated feel that does not fit in with the musical direction of the album. Highlights are the pleading `bring my family back', tour diary inspired `postcards'(dido guest vocal), majestic instrumental `take the long way home', the amazing musical journey of `god is a DJ' - the intro of which still sends a chill down my spine - and the beautiful title track nestled right at the end of the album.

`Sunday 8pm' confirmed two things at the time of release. Firstly, Faithless were not just your average one hit album dance music band. Secondly, the song writing and musicianship of Faithless stand head and shoulders above the chart orientated cheesy chart trance music released by other dance acts around the same time, such as `atb', `darude' et al...

This is one of my all time favourite albums by any artist which has only improved over time, and like any favourite, is a CD that I return to now and again and rediscover just how inspirational and complete `Sunday 8pm' is. If you buy this you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!, 4 Feb 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Sunday 8pm (Audio CD)
What can I say?
I have all of Faithless' albums except Back to Mine and I can say that this is by far the best. It switches from chill out in The Garden to the club classic tune God is a DJ, which is reason enough to buy the CD! You have fantastic songs with Bring my Family Back and the superb Take the Long Way home. Other tracks I like include Sunday 8PM, Postcards, Killers Lullaby and Hour of Need.
This does not mean that any of the other Faithless albums are no good, but this provides the true sound of Faithless. Stunning

5.0 out of 5 stars Do not play in the car, 3 May 2004

This review is from: Sunday 8pm (Audio CD)
I just love this album. Owned it since it's first release and still play it constantly.
I've had to ban it from the car though, as I can't play "god is a dj" without exceeding every speed limit known to man.
Play "postcards" and you feel you're on the bus with the band.
There's not a weak track on the album. so if you haven't got it, buy it.
