This William Kapell Edition 9CD box set contains all RCA quality recordings Kapell made around 50s, including the legendary Frick Collection Recital, and displays Kapell's super-human virtuosity and mature artistry at the hight of his short career with fine remastering (most recordings are remastered from original master tapes or discs, and most of works are reasonably well recorded for the dates). Kapell's rendition of Chopin's 3rd Sonata has never been surpassed to this day in tonal delicacy, keen sense of architecture and the most thrilling firey finale. Rachmaninov, Khachaturian, Prokofiev, Beethoven Concertos would make all past masters sound tame in comparison. Also included are well documented booklet with many photos, tributes, biographical notes, very informative commentary on Kapell's pianism, rare home recordings and only known full length interview. A great tribute to the Titan of piano and must for any serious collecters of piano music. Buy it while available!
