When poetry was the new rock and roll, this was Rupert Holmes - remember the Pina Colada song? Clever with words and catchy wine-bar friendly beat... OK, yes, neither Rock and Roll nor Poetry, or at least not when compared with the New Gen Poets of the mid 1990s, and not when compared with the performance poetry of the Nuyoricans. It is very much of it's time, Slam poetry had already taken off, stalled a little and along came some intellectually slanted operators surfing the Slam swells... it must be due for a comeback. 'Casual Sex' & 'Simply Everyone's Taking Cocaine' - a slam Noel Coward pastiche, are now dated but still fun. However, the 4 stars are for 'One Nation Under a Goatee' - seek it, buy it, love it for that alone.

I first heard this album over three years and its got an edge on Absolutely Fabulous like you hav'nt haerd before. With mixtures of music, sublime poetry and a tasts of utter contempt for the snobs of this world, you cant help but revel in it.
The first song describes the seduction of two chracters with money and status most of us will never persoanlly meet. Another song that says it all about the famous but rather Dumb would be MTV Super model: 'and when they finally asked "hows your life been?" She just smiled and said, "its been really wicked!"
Its a gas as my father would say and worth getting. As mentioned earlier I have has this album in my collection for yaers and one that I have gone back again and again to for simply making me laugh. I am surprised no one has written an article about it earlier!

Almost, but not quite as bad as meeting the man in person. Having lived next door to the pretentious, irrelevant invertebrate for the best part of five years I can assure anyone who might be considering buying this album that listening to it for any period of time is similar to how I imagine Chinese water torture to be. Scratch that, it's far, far worse. Peace, love and death to Lachlan Young.
