Product Description

CD Description

The second volume in Warp's electronic listening music series demonstrates why Warp continues to blaze trails while others have failed. Most of the artists included on these anthologies remain innovators within the electronic arena.
Journeyman Richard H. Kirk contributes a pre-Sandoz slice of dub funk with "Reality Net", chock full of his trademark mouse-like burbles and skipping roto-toms while Beaumont Hannant's beautiful slice of slow, faux-ethnic techno, "Utuba", alsopercolates nicely. High marks go to Speedy J's chattering digital symphony, "Symmetry", Mark Franklin's spaced out beats that "Release to the System", and B12's audio metric architecture rendering of "Scriptures". ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE II is one of the few compilations necessary for anyone establishing a serious electronic music library.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE CREAM OF ELECTRONIC LISTENING MUSIC, 16 Feb 2001
By Pieter "Toypom" (Johannesburg) - See all my reviews
(TOP 10 REVIEWER)
This is a brilliant collection of the most impressive electronic music of the 90s. All the contributions are of a high standard, but my favorites include Link's evocative "Arcadian," B12's solemn "Scriptures," Autechre's really weird and innovative "Chatter," (along with "Eutow," this is my alltime fave Autechre composition) Beaumont Hannant's bubbling, burbling & hypnotic "Utuba," Richard H Kirk's plinking, plonking, swaying "Reality Net" and Seefeel's chiming & echoing "Spangle," which reminds me a bit of Popol Vuh's "Nosferatu." These are some of the strangest sounds I've ever heard, powerful, varied and innovative. I prefer listening to this album in one go because of the variety, whilst I would never listen to an entire Autechre album, for instance. It should appeal to lovers of electronic music from both the techno to the classical avant garde side of the spectrum.

4.0 out of 5 stars Addictive and atmospheric, 22 Jan 2001
By A Customer
A real mixed bag of ambient brilliance! It's good to see acts like 'Seefeel' getting a look in on this compilation. I saw them support the Cocteau Twins some years ago and it was the strength of their performance that led to this album, although I had already enjoyed Autechre & Speedy Jay. Many different moods and sounds to chill to. A good post club therapy. Highly recomended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding digital recordings, 27 April 2000
By A Customer
I have been told that the original recording is even better than Volume Two, I can't comment yet as I have only heard Volume Two, but I must say these pieces of music will grow and grow on you. Relax, light some candles in a darkened room and let the music take you to another dimension. Some pieces are better than others but all in all outstanding.

5.0 out of 5 stars Warp at it's best
Classic home-listening 'intelligent' techno. This dates back to the early 90's which was, in my view, the golden-era both in terms of this type of British techno and also in terms... Read more
